2024 CSA Registration

Registration for our 2024 CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program opens on Tuesday March 5th in our Local Line Store!!

Join Our 2024 CSA!

We have additional spaces for the public in Rivers this year.
If any spots open up in Brandon we will reach out to those registered in our Local Line Store. Make sure you’re registered!
We anticipate both pickup locations will have capacity for weekly orders from non-members but joining our CSA is the best way to support what we do and guarantee access to our produce all season: When we get too busy or short on produce we limit what is available for public orders.

For more info about our Veggie Lovers’ Club CSA, please see this page.

If you are a new member, a $20 deposit is due by May 1.

March Farm Update

This year our first week of seeding aligns with CSA registration opening, so it really feels like things are kicking off for the season right now!

We’ve been having a good winter so far and we are happy that March came in like a lion with some snow to fill up the dugout in the spring.

Myrah has been enjoying school and is especially into reading right now. She and Jon are reading the first Harry Potter (thanks to member Charlie for the inspiration, he told me all about it at a pickup last fall, so cute!) and she made her way through all of Dav Pilkey’s series (Cat Kid Comic Club, Dogman, Captain Underpants) this winter – recommended by her cousin Caeden. (The potty jokes have decreased now that she’s on to Harry Potter which I’m grateful for!) She and I are working our way through the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Thanks to the Rivers Library for having such a great selection of books!

Reading is better with cats!

Jon and I do a lot of reading in the winter as well. My favourite reads this winter include “Outsider” by Brett Popplewell, “The Mindful Body” by Ellen Langer, and “The Lucky One” by Dale Arenson. Jon’s favourite reads this winter are “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Paramahansa Yogananda, “The Sign and the Seal” by Graham Hancock, and “Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean M. Auel. I’ve been doing more knitting than reading lately and I am currently working on a sweater for Jon. After that I will probably make a newborn-sized one!

Our seed orders arrived in February and we’re all set for the upcoming season. This week we will seed onions, shallots, leeks, celeriac, and celery. Onions are the longest crop we grow, they are seeded now and then planted out in the field in early May, weeded regularly, and harvested in late August or early September before the frost. Then they cure (dry) for a few weeks so they will store all winter. We are down to just household use now (ie, none for sale) but they are storing great and being made into all kinds of yummy soups, stews, lasagnas, pies, etc for the freezer.

Homemade everything – delicious!

We devote a lot of time in the winter to making food to support us in the busy summer months. Last weekend we made 27 dozen perogies for the freezer at Mom’s place. For supper we ate them with some sausages that we made with Mom and Dad in January, and homemade sauerkraut — it was delicious!

My current cravings are crunchy green things – celery, grapes, Granny Smith apples, and lettuce. I sure look forward to when our lettuce starts to be ready in June! We have a couple earlier plantings that may be ready before the CSA season starts, so if/when that happens I’ll keep you posted.

We have lots on the go this spring so we don’t plan to have anything available at Walker’s Greenhouse or to have any pop-up markets. We do currently have our price list open for orders in March & April in Brandon (bi-weekly delivery) and Rivers (weekly delivery on Fridays from 4 – 6 pm): Mom’s pickle selection plus some carrots, beets, and potatoes.

I’ll be checking my emails more than usual as we open up registration, so I’m happy to hear from you if you have any questions or updates to share!

We are so grateful to you, our community of Veggie Lovers. Your support is what keeps us farming, we couldn’t do it without you! Thank you for valuing local food and the good eats we produce on our little patch of prairie paradise.

Peace & Love,

-Teri, Jon and Myrah
